Adding a Digital Product
Note: We strongly recommend creating your category tree prior to adding digital products.
From the administrative control panel:
- Hover your mouse over “Users” and click on “Add a Digital Product”
- Name: Enter a name for this digital product.
- Description: Enter a description for this digital product.
- Delivery Method: Select how the file should be delivered to the user.
- E-Mail or Direct Download: The user can select how to receive the file.
- Direct Download: The file will be downloaded directly within the user’s browser. Note that this method DOES hide the location of the file on your server from the user.
- E-Mail: The file will be e-mailed to the user. Note that some e-mail have size limits for attachments, so files larger than 8-10Mb should only use the “Direct Download” delivery method.
- Download Limit: How many times can each user download this file?
- All Users: Would you like to make this file available to all users? If this checkbox is NOT ticked, you will have to either (1) individually assign access on a user-by-user basis to this file (”Users” > “Digital Product Access”) or (2) sell access to this file by creating a product.
- Expires: How many years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds after a user joins should that user NO LONGER be able to download the file? Leave blank to not expire this download. Examples:
- 3 months after joining: 00 03 00 00 00 00
- 1 month and 15 days after joining: 00 01 15 00 00 00
- Start Date: Starting on what date should users be able to download this file?
- End Date: After what date should users no longer be able to download this file?
- File Location: Is the file already uploaded to your server or do you need to upload it?
- File is NOT currently on the server: The following options appear:
- IMPORTANT: If your file is over 10Mb, upload your file using an FTP client and then click on the “File is currently on the server” option.
- Upload File: Select the physical file from your local hard drive that will serve as this digital product.
- Upload File To: Directory on your server into which this file should be uploaded. If you are uncertain, we recommend leaving this as the path to the default “digitalfiles” folder.
- Download Display Name: This is the name of the file as it will appear on the user’s hard drive following the download. The correct extension will be automatically added to the display name, so there is no need to include the extension when inputting this field. So if you are uploading a file named “company_profile.pdf”, you would input “company_profile”.
- File is currently on the server: The following options appear:
- Path to File: Input the full server path to the location where the file is currently located on your server.
- Download Display Name: See description provided above.
- Existing Category: The category into which this digital product will be added. Click here for more information on creating a category tree.
Managing Digital Products

- Name: Name of the digital product.
- Filename: Name of the file as it will appear once downloaded to a user’s hard drive.
- Last Updated: Last time the physical file was updated (this date will only change if you upload the file from the admin control panel)
- Options: (see below)
